Primer (2005)

4 out of 5.

Primer was recommended to me by a friend who knew I liked time travel movies. It is indeed a time travel movie. But probably unlike any you have ever seen. The story centers around two friends who have a garage workshop where they try to invent useful products. They eventually assemble a time machine which they can use to move back in time (as fas as I could tell there was no moving forward). Of course, problems arise and it makes for an intriguing movie.

This is probably a movie you will have to watch two or more times. At the end of the first run, I didn't understand what had happened at all and immediately played it again with the director's commentary (which helped a little, but not that much). The movie itself is only 77 minutes, so it is not a long haul. After watching it again nand reading up a little online, I appreciated it more and more. One hint that I will give you is that major paradoxes are allowed to happen. In Back to the Future, the plot hinged on Marty getting his parents back together so a major paradox wouldn't happen, but in this movie, they happen a few times.

Definitely not recommended for everyone. Only for those who like Sci-Fi or time travel movies. But different people might also find it enjoyable. A side note - this movie's entire budget was only $7000.
