"Dreams from the Monster Factory" is basically a biography of one woman's dogged quest to reform the prison system. The book tackles her whole life, but focuses on prison reform and how it can be done. It also spends a good amount of time recounting her experiences working in prisons and why they are generally so terrible.
It is a well written book that flows very smoothly. I found myself eager to find out what happened next in her life. I thought the programs they instituted were brilliant and should be replicated all over. I could have done with less on the personal life and more on prisons, but at some points the personal life is relevant.
Overall, a gritty read - prison life is no bed of roses, but a recommended one.
