1. Daniels' Running Formula: I bought this a year and a half ago, and finally got around to reading it. I remembered why I had kept putting it off. It is extremely technical, with all kinds of complex measurements, formulas, etc. I guess I should have expected that with "formula" in the title. I just thought the formula would be easier. This book is geared toward very seasoned runners who really know their stuff. Lots of very detailed plans.
2. The Non-Runner's Guide to Running a Marathon. Again, I need to examine these titles more carefully. I thought that since I was a novice, I would qualify as a "non-runner", but to qualify as a non-runner for purposes of this book you have to be pretty ignorant about most aspects of running. Given that I have run several races and read several books on running, I was well past this point.

Basically this book is a pep talk about how you can run a marathon. It gives you one simple plan to follow which basically just increases your mileage every week. Don't worry about speed - you're just there to finish. It also includes a lot of testimonials from people about how they did it and how great it felt. I almost felt like I was watching an infomercial for a marathon. It might be good for you if you like this kind of thing and if you are a novice and want to run a marathon, but I didn't care for it.

3. Braining Training for Runners. Finally, a book that was not too simple and not too complex. Just right. I really enjoyed this book. It talks about all aspects of running in an intelligent way. This book has a lot of good targeted workouts, great stretches, and a variety of easy to follow training plans. The speed charts are helpful, and not overbearing. I regularly reread chapters to see how I can improve in certain aspects. I anticipate I can keep implementing things from this book for years to come. Highly recommended.

Sounds like a Goldilocks story come true. Are you planning on running any marathons soon? Do they have any over there?
I am planning on a half marathon in March. It's on the beach. And it's the only race on the calendar here that isn't on Sunday. If that goes well, then there is a marathon in December that's also on a Saturday. We'll see. I really enjoy running.
