Hancock (2008)

3 stars out of 5

Hancock is your typical superhero movie. Lots of over the top action and special effects and kind of a weak story line. There were some things that set it apart though:

1. Will Smith is great. It's hard not to like him, even though his character is supposed to be unlikable.

2. Jason Bateman (of Arrested Development fame) is terrific. I love the guy. He almost makes this movie really fun.

What prompts my mediocre rating? Mostly the story. The ending is also pretty bad. Charlize Theron, while quite stunning, is a very weird character - you're never sure whether she is the protagonist or antagonist. I wondered why the movie really didn't take off even though it had Will Smith and Jason Bateman. Now I know why. Worth watching if you don't have anything to do.
