Pride (2007)

3.5 stars of 5

I’m not sure of the marketing genius who came up for the name of this movie, but I cannot think of a less descriptive name than “Pride”. Pride is the "Remember the Titans" of Swimming. A black coach with a chip on his shoulder sets out to reform the neighborhood rec center. Aided by the late Bernie Mac, he starts a swim team, which starts very poorly and you can probably guess how it ends.

As Rocky-genre style movies go, this one is okay. Even after Michael Phelps in the Olympics, it is hard to get really excited about swimming as a sport. However, it’s kind of an unbelievable story. Five pretty much random kids off the street are suddenly awesome swimmers? Yeah right.

Anyway, it’s a feel good movie that is not a total waste of time. If you have the time, it’s not too bad.

I see your advertisement at the top of this blog stating that you review "video games" in addition to movies, books, etc. But you don't have a single review! I'm waiting for a nice big review of "Dora the Explorer: Wrath of Dora", the video game.
